Today's Scenario: - GBP/JPY is trading higher, above the previous monthly high, despite weaker-than-expected Japan inflation data released on Friday. The move is attributed to positive market sentiment, although yields remain low. In March, Tokyo Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 3.3%, beating expectations of 2.7%, but was down from the previous reading of 3.4%. Tokyo CPI excluding Food and Energy also rose to 3.4% compared to the previous reading of 3.2% and market expectations of 3.3%. Additionally, Japan's Industrial Production growth increased to 4.5% MoM in February compared to estimates of 2.7% and the previous reading of -5.3%. Retail Trade also improved in February to 6.6% from 5.0% prior and market expectations of 5.8%. However, Japan's Unemployment rate unexpectedly increased from 2.4% to 2.6% in February, which may have contributed to the recent weakness in the Japanese Yen (JPY).

Buy Scenario: - The GBP/JPY daily chart indicates that the pair is currently testing a resistance trendline that has been in place for the past three months. The trendline runs around the 164.70-90 levels and the pair is trading at 4-week highs. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has turned bullish, indicating that the GBP/JPY outlook is positive. The Rate of Change (RoC) has also turned positive after the pair snapped three days of consecutive losses and bounced back on Thursday.
If the GBP/JPY continues to rise, the next resistance level would be at the February 27 high of 166.00. A breach of this level could expose the December 19 daily high at 167.01, followed by the December 12 high at 169.27. Till we do not advise to buy GBP/JPY.

Sell Scenario: - On the downside, the first support level for the GBP/JPY would be at the psychological level of 164.00. Further downside risks lie at the next support area, which is the 20-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at 161.87, before testing the 50-day EMA at 161.18, we do not advise to sell GBP/JPY.

Support and Resistance Level: -
SupportResistance
S1 163.39-R1 164.87
S2 162.45-R2 165.40
S3 161.92-R3 166.35
