The Kwacha is the currency of Zambia. The name comes from the Nyanja word for "dawn", and was first introduced in 1968. The Kwacha replaced the Zambian Pound at a rate of 1 Kwacha = 10,000 Pounds. In 2013, a new series of banknotes was introduced with improved security features. The current series includes denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Kwacha.The Bank of Zambia is responsible for issuing currency in Zambia. Coins are minted by the South African Mint Company and notes are printed by De La Rue plc.. There are currently no coins in circulation but there have been coins minted in 1 ngwee (equal to one-hundredth of a kwacha) ,5 ngwee ,10 ngwee , 25 ngwee denominations as well as 50 Ngwee which were only ever used for Maundy money.
