The US Technology Index or US Tech 100 is a major US stock index. It's a weighted average of X number of companies in the US Technology industry. The index is designed to capture the most important tech stocks traded on US exchanges and indices.Take a look at the US Tech 100, and you'll see that it's very similar to the NASDAQ 100 Index and DJIA (though it doesn't track any financials). The US Tech 100 was started in 1987 by Standard & Poor's and has been going strong ever since. It's traded on the Nasdaq under ticker symbol SPU. Over the years, quite a few people have made more money off of this index than they did from their day jobs. The US Tech 100 is a group of stocks that are part of the S&P 500 Index, but which are less than $1 billion in market cap. These companies are often referred to as small-caps. The index is named after the fact that it tracks what was once called the NASDAQ TEC Index, an index consisting of over 800 high tech companies that traded on the NASDAQ National Market (Nasdaq).
