Technical Indicators

A Technical Indicator is a calculation based on the price and/or volume of a security or index, that is used to forecast future price movements. Technical indicators are used by traders and analysts to help identify trends, determine potential buy and sell points, and assess the overall strength of a market or security.
Analyst uses technical indicators to identify trends, determine potential buy and sell points, and assess the overall strength of a market or security. They use them to make predictions about future price movements and to generate trading signals. Technical indicators can also be used to confirm or refute other indicators or signals, such as chart patterns.
There are many different types of technical indicators, each with their own unique characteristics and uses. Some of the most commonly used indicators include moving averages, relative strength index (RSI), stochastic oscillator, Bollinger Bands, and the macd (Moving Average Convergence Divergence).
Examples:
  • Moving averages: - A moving average is a simple indicator that calculates the average price of a security over a certain period of time. This can help traders identify trends and make predictions about future price movements.
  • Relative strength index (RSI): - The RSI is a momentum indicator that compares the magnitude of recent gains to recent losses in an attempt to determine overbought and oversold conditions of an asset.
  • Stochastic Oscillator: - The Stochastic Oscillator is a momentum indicator that compares the closing price of a security to its price range over a given period of time.
  • Bollinger Bands: - Bollinger Bands is a volatility indicator which consists of a moving average and two standard deviations away from it.
  • MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence): - The macd is a trend-following momentum indicator that compares the difference between two moving averages to identify changes in momentum.
These are only few examples, there are many more indicators available such as Ichimoku Cloud, Fibonacci retracement, etc.
