The Somali shilling (SOS) is the official currency of Somalia, a country located in the Horn of Africa. The Central Bank of Somalia is responsible for issuing and regulating the currency. The Somali shilling is divided into 100 cents. Banknotes are issued in denominations of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 shillings. Coins are denominated in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100 shillings.Somalia has been in a state of political turmoil and economic instability for decades, and as a result, the Somali shilling has experienced significant inflation and depreciation. The central bank has tried to stabilize the currency by issuing new banknotes, but the value of the shilling remains relatively low compared to other currencies. Additionally, there are also regions in Somalia where different currencies are used, like in the regions of Somaliland and Puntland, where the Somaliland shilling and Puntland shilling are used respectively.
