The Slovenian tolar (SIT) was the official currency of Slovenia from October 8, 1991 to December 31, 2006. It was replaced by the Euro (EUR) as the official currency of Slovenia on January 1, 2007, when Slovenia joined the Eurozone. The tolar was divided into 100 stotins. The ISO 4217 code for the Slovenian tolar was SIT. The Bank of Slovenia was responsible for issuing the tolar.The Slovenian tolar had a fixed exchange rate with the Euro, 1 EUR = 239.640 SIT. The exchange rate was locked on July 1, 2007, and the tolar was officially replaced by the Euro on January 1, 2007.The banknotes issued in tolar were in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 tolar. Coins were issued in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 stotins, and 1, 2 and 5 Tolar.The Slovenian Tolar was replaced by the Euro as the official currency of Slovenia on January 1, 2007, as part of Slovenia's entry into the European Union and the Eurozone.
