NEO is a cryptocurrency and the name of a China’s first open source blockchain. NEO was founded in 2014 by Da Hongfei and is similar to Ethereum in its ability to execute smart contracts or Dapps. However, there are some technical differences between NEO and Ethereum such as coding language compatibility. For example, while Ethereum uses Solidity as its primary programming language, NEO uses C#, Java, and Python which makes it more accessible for developers who are already familiar with these languages. In addition, NEO also utilizes a unique consensus mechanism called DBFT (delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance) which allows it to achieve high transaction throughput even when running on decentralized networks with low trust levels.
