Namibia is a country located in southern Africa. The Namibian dollar is the official currency of Namibia. The code for the Namibian dollar is NAD. One US dollar equals about 16 Namibian dollars.The history of the Namibian dollar goes back to 1892 when it was first introduced as the South West African rand, which was used by both Botswana and South Africa. In 1965, however, Botswana decided to switch to its own currency called the pula, leaving South Africa as the only country using the rand. That changed in 1990 when Namibia gained independence from South Africa and switched to its own currency called the namibi or "dollar" in English.
