The Money Flow Index (MFI) is a technical oscillator that uses price and volume data for identifying overbought or oversold signals in an asset. It can also be used to spot divergences which warn of a trend change in price. The oscillator moves between 0 and 100, with readings above 80 indicating an overbought asset and readings below 20 indicating an oversold asset. When using the MFI, it's important to keep in mind that like other oscillators, it is prone to giving false signals. In addition, the MFI doesn't take into account the size of trades, just their number - so large trades can have a big impact on the index even if they're few in number. As such, the MFI should be used as part of a broader technical analysis strategy rather than being relied on as a standalone indicator.
