Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index (MCSI)

Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index (MCSI)

Most of us know what it feels like to be in a down economy. Don't we? So, taking a look at the Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index (MCSI) shouldn't be surprising anymore. The index has come out with its monthly report that shows how consumers feel about their personal finances, business conditions, and buying conditions.
Let's have a look at this month's numbers:
  • 0.9 point: Decline was the largest since October 2015
  • 3 points: Displaying almost double decline from last month, which is why we've called it as intensifying uncertainty over the future of our economy!
  • 4 points: The confidence was highest in April 2016 when it went up by 4 points! We can see that things are still looking good for our state but with an increasing number of uncertain factors along with poor performance by several sectors within few months, there's no denying that things are not going as well as they should've been going by now.
  • 6 and 7 points: Not only did people expect further decline in MCSI after April 2016 but they also expected worse results this time around considering the previous one.
With our Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index, we wanted to take a step back and see how consumers are feeling about the economy.
See for yourself how Michigan is doing by checking out this month's results: Consumer confidence in Michigan increased this past month. The index measured 100.0 in February 2016 compared to 99.9 in January 2016! This is an increase of .1 points on last month's reading and 9 months running, meaning consumers feel more confident than they have been since July 2015.
A survey conducted every month, MCSI tracks consumer sentiment regarding their financial situation, business conditions, and buying patterns. The results are published every month on the Michigan news website MLive by data experts at Morning Consult Inc., a leading global survey-based market research firm headquartered in Washington, DC. The monthly index shows consumers' views on the current state of their industries and personal finances in a way that's easy to understand. You can use these insights to make decisions that will help you grow your business in Michigan or anywhere else in the United States.
