Lot (Securities Trading)

Lot (Securities Trading)

A Lot in securities trading is the number of units of a financial instrument bought on an exchange. The number of units is determined by the lot size.
For example, in the stock market, a round lot is 100 shares. However, investors do not have to buy round lots, where a lot can be any number of shares. In addition, many investors like to buy fractional amounts such as one-fifth or one-eighth of a round lot. This makes it possible for them to buy more shares at each unit price.
In the financial markets, a lot is the number of units of a financial instrument bought on an exchange. The number of units is determined by the lot size.
For example, in the stock market, a round lot is 100 shares. Investors buy these lots directly from the company offering them: They don't have to sell their own shares first.
A lot (securities trading) is the number of units bought on an exchange. Usually, this number depends on the price unit and determines the amount that has to be paid for the same amount of units. In the stock market, round lots can be purchased only for 100 shares. However, investors do not necessarily have to buy round lots because their value is determined by the market conditions at any moment and other factors that influence trading activity.
Investors in the stock market are often interested in lots. When buying a large number of shares, investors may want to buy round lots. This means that the investor is acquiring all the same securities shares of a certain issue at the same average price (market price in terms of bid and ask). In this way, then, there is no risk associated with larger orders as there would be with an order for fewer shares.
