Comorian franc (KMF) is the official national currency of Comoros. It was introduced in 1961, replacing the French franc. The Comorian franc is subdivided into 100 centimes. The name "franc" comes from the Latin word "frank", meaning free. This reflects the fact that, before its introduction, Comoros was a colony of France and used the French franc as its currency. The Comorian franc is pegged to the euro at a rate of 1 EUR = 491 KMF.
