Issuing binding technical standards – these are rules that must be followed by all market participants in order to ensure a level playing field; -
Monitoring compliance with EU legislation – this includes conducting inspections if necessary; -
Drawing up blacklists of firms or individuals who have broken EU law – these lists can be made public; -
Acting as an information hub for national regulators – ESMA collects data from national regulators and makes it available to them so they can take action where necessary.
