The Krooni is the currency of Estonia. Originally derived from the Danish Krone, the Krooni was adopted as the only legal tender in Estonia in 1920. The value of the Krooni has remained stable over time. The value of a Krooni fluctuates with the Euro but is usually around 1 to 1.2 Euros per Krooni. The exchange rate between the Euro and Krooni is fixed at 19,722 Euros per 100 Krooni by law. As of 2019, there are no plans to change the exchange rate between the Euro and Krooni. One Krooni is divided into 100 cents. However, there are 100 pennies in one Euro. Therefore, one Kvroon is equivalent to 1/10th of a Euro. For this reason, you’ll often hear people saying that you’re paying “a few cents” instead of “several Kvroon” when paying with Euros in Estonia. Alternatively, if you have American dollars with you, you can pay $1 or $1.10 for each Euro you buy—this way, you’ll be paying more than if you were paying with Euros alone since your dollar will be worth more when converted to Euros than one hundred cents would be when converted to Kvroon (the value of your dollar would be less due to inflation).
