A Chairman is person who an executive elected by a company's board of directors who is responsible for presiding over board or committee meetings. The chairman typically represents the interests of shareholders and oversees the management of the company. Some companies elect their CEO to also serve as their chairman, while others have a separate chairperson. In either case, it is important that the chairman has a clear understanding of his or her role and responsibilities in order to effectively lead the organization.The chairman has one of the most important roles on a board. He or she sets agendas and schedules meetings, keeps everyone informed about what's going on within the organization, develops relationships with other directors and members of management, handles difficult situations when they arise, and acts as a liaison between management and shareholders.In addition to being responsible for leading meetings and keeping track of ongoing business, a chairman must be organized enough to handle multiple tasks at once — especially if he or she is keeping an eye on multiple projects at once.
