The bolivianos is the currency of Bolivia. Its ISO 4217 code is (BOB). One boliviano is divided into 100 centavos. The boliviano replaced the bolivian peso in 1864 at a rate 1 peso = 8 bolivianos. It was initially subdivided in 100 centécimos, although these coins were mostly used by the wealthier classes and were deemed too small for everyday use.During the first presidency of Hilarión Daza (1876–1879), the bolivian peso was reintroduced at a rate of 1 boliviano = 8 pesos. In 1879, the boliviano was pegged to the US dollar at a rate of 4.8 bolivianos = 1 dollar. The peg was changed in 1940, when one boliviano was set equal to one franc, although this peg was abandoned in 1943. The peg to the US dollar was restored in 1952, initially at a rate of 4.5 bolivianos = 1 dollar, but this was later devalued to a rate of 2.6 bolivianos = 1 dollar in 1976.
