Ben Bernanke is one of the most influential economists in the world. He has been a major force in shaping economic policy not only in America, but also internationally. Bernanke was born on December 13, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia. After graduating from college, he worked as a research assistant for Professor Milton Friedman at the University of Chicago. In 1982 he received his Ph.D. from Princeton University and began teaching at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business (GSB).Bernanke's work focused on understanding how financial crises develop and how they can be avoided or mitigated.In early 2006 Ben Bernanke was nominated to become the next Chair of The Board Of Governors Of The United States Federal Reserve System by President George W Bush after Alan Greenspan announced his retirement.Bernanke took over as Fed Chair on February 1st 2006 and served until January 31st 2014. One of Bernanke's primary goals during his tenure as Fed Chair was to prevent another Great Depression like event from happening . To do this he implemented several policies such as quantitative easing which injected trillions of dollars into the economy.
