The Belarusian ruble is the official currency of Belarus. The BYR code has been used by the National Bank of Belarus since 1992. The Belarusian ruble was introduced after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It replaced the Soviet ruble at a rate of 1 BYR = 10,000 Soviet rubles. The first coins were minted in 1992 and notes were introduced in 1994.The ruble is divided into 100 Kapeykas. Coins come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 Kapeykas and 1, 2, 5 rubles. Banknotes come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 rubles.The Belarusian ruble is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of 1 BYR = $0.50.
