The first dram was introduced in 1919, replacing the Turkish lira.The Armenian Dram is also sometimes referred to as the "luma". The Dram has been the currency of Armenia since 1920. The obverse of the Armenian Dram banknotes feature a portrait of someone who has played an important role in the history of Armenia. The reverse of the banknotes feature different Armenian landmarks, animals, and plants.
